Happy New Year! We're almost twenty days into 2021 and I hope you're hanging in there.

I've set some personal and reading goals this year. Personally I'm working on getting outside with my kids every day. Over the weekend, we got outside during a rain storm and stomped in puddles. My son loved it and my daughter not so much. I'm also working to make a conscious effort to reduce the amount of waste we produce and cut down on single use plastics. All are going really well!!

As for reading, I've set my Goodreads Challenge to 30 books. It certainly is going to be a challenge, but I'm ready. Hoping to ward off any unforeseen reading slumps that'll push me behind. So far I've read 3 books and I'm half way through my 4th! I didn't review any of these on Instagram, so I'll just briefly recap them here.

First up, I read Star Wars Forces of Destiny. A canon graphic novel all about the awesome females in the STU. I was totally shocked to see this as a Kindle Unlimited title, so I downloaded and I really couldn't stop myself from jumping in. I watch the Disney + Forces of Destiny series with my littles. I loved that Hera from Rebels was in the comic. She is a favorite of mine and she's really only known in Rebels, so it was nice to see her outside of that. I feel like the Padme/Ahsoka story was a Clone Wars episode already, so I was kind of disappointed, especially because I also LOVE Ahsoka. But all in all, I really enjoyed it. I gave it a 4/5 star rating.

Star Wars: Princess Leia #1-5

Also included in Kindle Unlimited is Star Wars: Princess Leia. Jumped on board because I haven't yet read this volume. I'm going to be honest here, I struggled to get through this one. I don't feel that I was ever gripped or invested in the story. It took me several days to finish just because I really couldn't stick with it. My rating is between a 2 and a 3 out of 5. I think I Goodreads I rounded up and rated 3/5.

Lastly, my hold for What Kind Of Woman by Kate Baer came in. This is a book of poems, so it read pretty quick. The author broke them up into three sections on being a women, a wife, and a mother. Perhaps one or two resonated with me in the first two sections, but mostly not. Had a hard time getting through. Thought it was looking bleak, but so glad I finished, because the motherhood part - I felt seen! It really is a grand finale. I ended up rating 3/5 stars on Goodreads.

Right now I am currently reading, and halfway through, Ahsoka by E.K. Johnson. Heh, guess it's a Star Wars heavy start to the year. Anyone else a huge Star Wars nerd? As usual I'm on way too many library holds lists, so I have no idea what I'll be reading next. I've got some really interesting ones queued up. What are you excited to read this year?

Stay safe and be kind and I'll post again soon! Make sure to follow me on Instagram @readbysti.
