BOOK: The Soul of an Octopus by Sy Montgomery

THE SOUL OF AN OCTOPUS: A SURPRSING EXPLORATION INTO THE WONDER OF CONSCIOUSNESS by Sy Montgomery.

I had loved octopuses before reading this book, and now having read this book I feel a deeper love and appreciation for these creatures. They can be gentle, or playful, or cold, or curious, just like us. They're intelligent and amazing problem solvers. Also like us, if they're not challenged, they get bored! They deserve way more credit than people give them. Truly fascinating creatures.

Sy beautifully documents her encounters with many octopuses within these pages. I was delighted to meet each one and intrigued by their incredibly different personalities. It's so interesting and I truly loved every second of it.

My son and Myrtle

Also, what made this even more special for me is Sy did most of her observing at the New England Aquarium, which is my local aquarium. We're members! So hearing her talk about certain tanks within the aquarium delighted me because I knew exactly what she was talking about! Even Myrtle the sea turtle was mentioned and my son has an affinity for Myrtle. When we visit, we visit Myrtle, the bonnethead sharks, and the giant pacific octopus the most. My son and I are aquatic lovers...my husband and my daughter are just along for the ride. Hehehe.

This book has intensified my love for these creatures, piqued my curiosity, and resulted in a search history for local scuba classes. When this pandemic is under control, I am going to learn to scuba dive and hopefully meet one for myself.

I can't wait to read more from Sy Montgomery!
