Book Review: MY DEAR HAMILTON by Stephanie Dray and Laura Kamoie

MY DEAR HAMILTON by Stephanie Dray and Laura Kamoie

MY DEAR HAMILTON is a 652 page, historical fiction about the life of Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton. Originally published in April of 2018.

I've awarded MY DEAR HAMILTON with 5/5 stars. I enjoyed this novel immensely! I'm both fascinated and inspired by women in history, especially Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton. I love how caring, strong, and resilient she was and speaking most specifically to the mother she was, I draw inspiration from her daily whilst mothering my own brood.

This book is expertly researched and recounted, and beautifully written to boot! I've done a considerable amount of research about Eliza for personal pleasure, so going into this novel, I knew her timeline very well. The novel is true to history, with some slight alterations, which are generously provided in the 'Note from the Authors' section succeeding the novel.

Being true to history only goes so far, as there are gaps in Eliza's history due to lack of documentation. Dray and Kamoie have done an excellent job re-imagining and filling those voids. They did this with deep adoration and respect for Eliza, and for that I am grateful.

This novel is by far my favorite I've read of Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton. I highly recommend this novel!
